Ahhh yes. Old human towns, Burnt down or rotting away in the wake of their disappearance. Leaving it to the surviving things, the surviving species. Well, THE surviving species. The only things you can find so far; Canines. All of the canines so far, Nothing more and nothing less it seemed. One particular canine is right at this moment walking through the old town. Head raised as she walked. She wasn't showing off, but she needed to keep her eyes up. She was used to the quiet of old places like this sure, but she wasn't used to the lonely feeling of missing a pack.
This She is Serlina. A spotted Hyena. Hyena's, believe it or not, Are a pack animal. They work like cogs to kill large prey together. Though single ones are still very much deadly and dangerous. They were known for their growl, which sounds like a laugh to many thing. This laugh has made them infamous, and hers was no different. Right now, a low laugh begins in her throat. A warning to anything around her that was thinking of harming her or spooking her. She was in strange territory, And alone. Not a good feeling.
Why was she here then you may ask? Well, She had heard a pack was being formed. And she wanted in. Badly. She yearned for the trust of a pack, and the knowledge that no matter what you do, someone will be there in the wings, watching for the moment when you need them. A role she loved to play for others, and needed someone to play for her. Especially now, when things were so strange and silent, devoid of sound of the busy humans. Much as she hated to say it, she missed the clunky things. Those thoughts would be replaced by something else, at least she hoped.
Slowing down Serlina looks around, Her eyes skimming quickly for any movement. Honed eyes, made for seeing the smallest twitch within grasses or the darkness. Sniffing also helps as she looks around, before stopping and laughing slightly, leading into a loud bark. Then another, Then another. Three with pauses in between for someone to hear, and confirm that yes, there was indeed someone barking for someone else.
And thus began the waiting game.
Serlina lays down there, her head held up to look around her lazily, waiting for a response.

Snow & Ice, Alphess of the Essence Pack
| It was strange to finally have such a familiar duty at her paws. Being the leader of a pack that hadn't been created yet was still a weight on her chest that she could do nothing about. She could go out and recruit members, but she didn't feel it necessary, for if they were to come, they would. Soon enough, she found herself walking along the old town of Tombstone, it's name fit it well. It was creepy, decomposing and sometimes when the shepherd past it, she could almost feel the deceased reaching out to grab her. 'Course it was only her imagination, right?
Halfway through the town, three loud barks filled her ears. Almost like laughter. Was somebody mocking her? A low growl rung in the dogs mouth as she turned in the direction of the bark. If this was someones plan of a joke, they weren't going to live to see the end of it. But, as she came closer to the source, she realized it was a spotted hyena. Probably only wanting to gain entry, since they rarely ever traveled along. The canine was lazily laying on her side as though she had no care in the world and silently, she was wishing she could be just like this hyena. Free, without any worries or cares on her shoulders. But, no. This was what she wanted, this was what she was going to do.
With a burst of pride, she rose her height to the one an Alpha should carry and let out a sharp bark of greeting to the little hyena. Usually, she wouldn't see this kind of canine in these lands, but who knew what a land without the humans to destroy it would bring. A lot of surprises, she was sure of it. When she reached the canine's side, she lowered her haunches into a sitting, relaxed position. "Greetings, young hyena. I am Snow & Ice, but please just call me snow. What brings you to my lands?" Her voice was sweet, welcoming. Allowing her ears to twitch around, she waited for the hyena's response.

She had long since smelled the dog approaching her, then spotted her and turned her head towards her. The dog before her was relaxing like herself, sitting down but still retaining a bit of the formality expected of something like this. Something of this, Just what was this? Two of the last surviving semi-sentient species desperately trying to bolster their numbers to look like they aren't completely screwed over?
Yep. That sums this up perfectly.
She never moved from that lazy laying position, blinking a few times while thinking.
"Snow AND Ice. Didn't know which one was better so ya' just took both, huh?"
A smirk spread over her face, or as close as a Hyena could get to such a look. Her lips lifting slightly to reveal her razor like teeth as a hyena laugh played at the back of her throat. She had the special gift of being able to actually be able to laugh. Good thing too, as she was usually one of the only people laughing at her sass or jokes. Hopefully this wolf had some humor too, or else this would be a bad start to a pack-ship-thing.
After a few seconds she dropped the smirk and laugh, and nodded once. Affirming that she respected the white wolf in a right or two.
"Name's Serlina. Sir-Le-na. Came from a ways back and thought you might be gettin' ever so lonely what with the up and disappearance of the clunkers. So I took it upon humble ol' self to come over and see if I can keep ya' company." Her head dips forwards slightly at this point, causing her iris's to be cut off slightly by her eye lids and she raised an eyebrow. "If you'll have me that is."
Which might as well be an open air question. Her sass may get her a no or a yes depending upon that lil' wolfs reaction. Or Snow AND Ice. Snow and Ice. . . . Both happen during winter. And Winter was much easier to say. Yep. She is now Winter. The Alpha to a surviving planet. Who knows this canine might just be a leader. . . Oooorrr she'll doom everyone but who's looking on the dark side here?

Snow & Ice, Alphess of the Essence Pack
| The first thing out of the little hyena's mouth was about her name, though Snow found it a very gutsy move from the canine, she also found it a bit funny. The white dog cocked her head to the side, pulling one ear down and the other standing straight up on her head. It was a funny look, but one that also gave off all of the confusion she was feeling toward the canine before her. "Well, like most dogs, I didn't name myself." She answered awkwardly, raising her ears to where they stood at the same height, well, almost that is. The next thing the hyena did surprised Snow even more. She had lifted her lips into some sort of smile and began to laugh. Snow had no idea what to do, so she kind of pulled her head back, eyes widening and just watched. She couldn't do anything close to that, so what was she supposed to do? Giving her chest fur an awkward lick, she knew she could get along with this crazy hyena somehow.
But, it wasn't long before she learned the hyena was called Serlina and that she DID respect Snow, even if her name had two words in it. Flicking an ear, she listened as the hyena went on about how the humans disappeared and how she had been a lone ever since. But, Serlina couldn't have been more off. Snow had been alone for a lot longer than the humans being gone, she had been alone for almost 3 years now and she was getting pretty old at that. But, Serlina ended the conversation with asking if she would be allowed to join, and Snow was more than happy to let her in, just as long as she knew the rules. "We welcome anyone into the pack, you just have to follow a few rules. I am the Alpha, I am in charge. If you try to overstep me, or your boundaries, I have every right to fight you off or ban you from your position or throw you from the pack."
That wasn't really how Snow's personality worked, but she would take dumb canines who tried to do so with the drastic measure of a fight. The shepherd was very fit when it came to defending and protecting her pack. "Also, you will need a rank, so tell me, what are you good at? Fighting and protecting, spying, hunting, or running long distances? We have a rank for all of the above."The sharp, defensive tone of the Alpha was beginning to fade into a much friendlier voice, which was extremely rare. This Serina was getting pretty lucky on Snow's good side.

Serlina snickered at the shepards reaction to her laughing, but seemed to listen well enough when she explained the rules.
"Don't mess with you, And don't try to kill something I Shouldn't. Got it boss."
She gave her that smirk again, before dropping it as she began to speak of ranks and what she was good at. Hm, never thought of it, but what was she good at. She could run very quickly when she needed to, or wanted to burn off some energy. She could hunt good on her own, in a pack she worked like a deadly shot, same went for protecting things. . .
"I dunno if I'm perfect at one thing Winter Wolf, But I can do all of the above pretty well. Give me something to kill and I'll kill it. Give me something to watch and I'll watch it. Give me somewhere to run, And I'll run. But, judging by how you're runnin' the borders you must be under manned. So, I'll just be all around for now. I'm best at Killing so far, natural for me at this point in my life you know."
Then she sits up, pulling her lips back to show her teeth again, in that same smirk. No laugh this time.
"I work best with a pack, All the lil' gears spinning round to bring home the food. But I can just as well bring back some game on my own. I'll just get a bit lonely, which I can guess you must be."
She was still acting like a smart-arse, but she was doing it in good humor. She noticed how the Shepard was starting to relax, and talk in a nice friendly manor, so they were getting along. This was good, It was a start to something.

Snow & Ice, Alphess of the Essence Pack
| The hyena had one smart, sharp-tongued personality, but Snow couldn't argue with that. Sometimes a pack needed strong authority and well, Serlina had that. Even better, she seemed to know how to control it and knew her boundaries quite well. The Shepherd couldn't ask for much more. When she spoke up once more, Snow cocked her head when she was called 'Winter Wolf.' She found it interesting, but did understand the nickname. Her name was linked to the two things that happen in the winter. Snow which can turn into ice. Though it was a bit awkward to be called it, she made no comment, as she wanted to make the member as comfortable as possible. Plus, the first member of the pack will probably be the one she is most bonded to, no need to ruin that in the first greeting.
Once Serlina had explained what she could do, Snow decided her best bet would probably be a hunter, possibly the lead at some point. She had seen hyena's hunt before. They did best with a pack of them. Some even managed to fight off lions, which was a good thing at that. Once Serlina had finished speaking, Snow dipped her head in acknowlegement. The job of making a pack was a bit lonely, well a bit more than a 'bit.' She was constantly having conversations with herself and well, that wasn't much of a life, was it? Serlina gave her a silent new hope that others would join and then she would have more canines to talk to and the pack could be a much better place in such a lonely world. "Then I assume you will do good under the rank as a hunter for now." She stated, more to herself, but it was loud enough for the hyena's keen ears to pick up. "Though you can always work up to the lead, and since I'm a bit low on members, you can help out with borders for now too if you wish."
Snow gave a light smile. Finally understanding that she wouldn't have to do anything by herself anymore. Though, just as quick as she showed it, she hid it away, knowing that too much excitement too soon almost always ended in disaster.

She laughed silently at the small cock of the head as she spoke, and quickly payed attention when the Shepard began to speak. She was officially given the rank of huntress, something she liked, and unofficially an all-around-hyena to help. Wounderous pictures played through her head of a new arrival being greeted by herself. Oh, how she could toy with them first, let them know what their in fo- Her Alphess was talking again. Nodding once as her new Alphess began to speak. And then she smiled, and quickly made it disappear.
"Aw, Come on now. Smile, It's good for you,-"
She tucks her head in wards slightly, muttering the next piece of information.
"or so I've been told."
She then raises her head to continue speaking.
"But from someone who's seen how bad a day can get, have that smile handy. Don't hide it to much or it'll right up and vanish on ya' Winter."
She lifts herself up from the ground, the muscles within her legs stretching and pulling to bring the hyena to her paws. Her head bobbed towards where winter came from, opposite where she came from, away from the open fields and from the town. Her eyes shine with a small hint of something. Either a childish excitement, waiting to start running through the fields with her new found pack mate, r an animalistic lust for blood, waiting to rip the life from an animal much smaller than herself. Perhaps both, the running after the prey with a friend, and the kill of her own muzzle.
"If I'm not bein' cast off here, I'm ready to start now Winter. Whatever you need."

The hyena always seemed to be getting lost in her thoughts, but Snow was not one to object or complain. She too was always getting her mind lost somewhere and she was never able to paw full attention. Giving a quick shake of her head, she was realizing that she was doing just that when she should be figuring out the next steps. Do I really want to be an Alpha? It's not too late to back out.. Her mind whispered and she mentally snarled. Of course you want this. She scolded before turning her attention back to Serlina. She allowed the light smile to prick at her lips as her new hunter began to ramble on about smiling. And it seemed now that her new name was Winter, at least for Serlina. She was not going to allow any other canines to use the nickname. There were somethings that were meant to be special with a first member of the pack.
Serlina was right, they did need to get to work on something. Swiveling her wars to check around for something that could be done, she nodded to the hyena before her. "Yes, what about going to fetch some supper?" She murmured, as the spotted canine rose herself to her paws. Snow turned around, only casting another white fanged smile back at her newest companion before she led her into the heart of her new home. Though she hid most of her feelings, Snow was super excited about having another member to share her thoughts with and be a real pack. Though, they weren't a pack just yet, they would be soon, it was just a matter of time. More canines would show up, Snow cold feel it in her paws, and this time, she would have Serlina by her side to meet them.
