Paws of a predetor, paws of a killer step one before the other in an entry to the forest. Mouth curled back while damp air left her in easy breathes. Everything around her was new and she was excited. Small game was what had kept her over for the weeks leading up to finding the borders. Fish, Mice, and stray birds were a common snack. And the common snack became an hourly meal. Her stomach growled softly, demanding nourishment A.S.A.P.
"You know what animals live 'round here Miss Winter?"
Her muzzle turned towards her white colored friend, a brow lowered while the other raised in soft questioning. An under manned alpha left alone to create borders gave off a subtle signal that hunting may have taken a back seat to everything else. But that would never slide past this white shepard, from what she had seen she was very proper. A single step out of line was a threat for death, and a smile was seen as a rare event. No, This Alphess knew her land, she had to.
"Lead on Winter, This is your land, not mine. Well, 'tis shared in a way. You've got most of the ownership."
Quiet laughter escapes her throat, a good hearted one. It was higher pitched and more happy than what other ones she had for growls. Ones she held for prey to scare them into the hands of her pack, ones she used to keep rivals away from younglings, ones she used to find friends. HEr laugh could either be the sign of a happy day, or the end of a life. Almost everything depeneded on the person.

The hunting grounds were one of the Snow's favorite places to go. As she made her way into it's large lands, her body swayed and her head was held high, ears flicked forward and mind alert. She knew these grounds as well as her two front paws. When they came into it's main opening, she took a seat, listening to Serlina talk behind her, an she even caught the light growl of her stomach. Snow too, was hungry, but they needed a good plan if it were to go down well. The Essence Pack held the largest hunting grounds of all the other lands in the area. To the west, a little stream full of fish, east, a large patch of woods that would eventually open into Melody Woods, a free, unclaimed land, and then North, a series of grass plains that would, if followed long enough, erupt into the packs camp and dens.
Her attention swaying back to the hyena, she flicked a tiny smile, her chocolate brown eyes glowing with her unseen excitement. It was always a fun time to hunt, but it was always more fun with a partner right behind you. Giving her tail a small wag, she spoke up from the silence. "Welcome to the pack's hunting grounds. The biggest of all of the territories and free lands in as far as your paws will take you." A shiver of unhinged pride rung through the white shepherds fur. She was proud of the area that she called home and no one was going to take that from her. "It's the largest for a reason. If you head toward the west, you will come across a decent sized stream full of fish, water voles are not common, but you can still find one every once in a while. To the east, you have the woodlands, which you must watch where you tread and who you fight off. We share it with a free land called Melody Woods. But, inside there are quite a few large deer and moose herds. And finally, the north, is a series of large, green plains. Follow it a little ways down and you will find where the camp and dens of the pack are located. Enough talk, let's get supper." Rising to her paws, she aimed toward the woodlands, her tail raised high behind her.
Not too long after, she was at the verge of the woods. Her jaw parted and she inhaled the air, tasting for any herds or other wildlife that could be in the area. Serlina and herself had no chance of a moose, not even a young male or cow, they were too big and stocky. But, a small doe or fawn from one of the deer herds would be hard, but easier than a moose, and it would be a good share for the two canines. Assuming that Serlina would already understand that, she furthered into the woods, her paws silent and well trained over the twig and leaf covered ground. Once she had the herds scent, it was much easier to follow. Soon enough, the deer herd came into place. Luckily for them, a doe and her fawn were a bit separated from the pack and would make a good meal for them. The doe would live to see another season, but her fawn, not so much. Turning her head to Serlina, there was a hint of mischievous in the grin that she wore on her face. "Alright, you are the hunter, tell me your strategy." It was obvious this was a test for the young hyena. Lowering her haunches to wait, she watched the herd, her eyes wide with amusement. Lyrics from Turning Tables by Adele. Picture by Aurora. Movement before her, her alphess. An explanation offered to where they were, and what was within it. This prompted her to raise her head and examine the immediate area in wonder. Largest hunting ground would imply largest range of food, largest range of food implied it would sustain a big pack. Two canines weren't that big pack, larger game was indeed out of the question. Winters tail almost smacks her in the face causing her to return back to reality. Her alphess had begun to move, with her paws fallowing behind.
Movement in front of her, not her alphess but of something slightly larger. The scent of it filled her nose with information offering her information on the creatures before her. Deer. A small pack, containing a few deer and a fawn with it's mother. Deer were jumpy creatures, one incorrect scent and they were running. To a Hyena like her, that would be the fun part. Sprinting to kill, letting the prey thing they were going to see another day just to end it with a bite to their neck. Or if she's feeling very brutal, the legs and let them try to run again. Oh the fun that could follow. The risk with only two canines however could not be taken, as well as the fact brutality may not be the best thing to show right now. There would be a test, and this was it.
Face low to the ground, body loose and fluid in movement, keep within the brush. She followed the white dog before her to just before the pack. Her ears turned towards the alphess as she asked her what to do. A few seconds of thought before a reply came from her mouth. Quiet and almost silent.
"We each move to one side, and when I give a signal we jump and run towards the runt. It's small and quick, weak though. Just one good bite 'an it's down. Alright?"
Her head bobs once, and moves to her position in this plan, waiting for her alphess to take hers.

At the thought of deer, Snow felt her stomach growl and saliva began to drip from her large jaw. It had been forever since she had had deer meat, it was very rare to take it down on her own, even at her large size and strong bite. Now that she had Serlina, things were going to much easier and much less lonely. As the female listened to the hyena explain the hunt, she figured she could have been a bit more specific, but more than less she understand how the hunt was going to need to play out. Wiggling her ears, she waited until Serlina had done her usual bob of the head before she trotted to her own spot in a pretty thick bush, downwind of the herd. This way, they couldn't smell or see her, and the fawn would be surprised before it was killed.
Turning to the hyena, she let out a light bark to gain her attention. "Your idea works, but I think it will be easier if I use my loud bark to chase the herd away, and you take the kill on the fawn. Otherwise, you have a chance of one of the young bucks coming to it's defense." Flicking her ears, she waited for the hyena's response, then she settled back into her position. Serlina's plan would have most likely worked, but it was a little risky. Even though the mother would take off, there was still the possibility that the lead buck or one of the younger ones would come to the fawns aid and one of the canines could end up with an injury. It was much safer for her to herd them away and Serlina to take the kill. Crouching back into her hiding place, she waited for the hyena to give the signal. Lyrics from Turning Tables by Adele. Stopped by a careful sound she turns back, listening to the newest plan. A feinged frown comes over her features as she whispers in return.
"That was the fun paaaarrrt. . ."
A few beats of her heart later she turned the frown into her usual smirk of amusement before shrugging.
"Your turf. Sounds good to me."
Deer was a semi new prey. She had delt with them before, maybe twice in her life, but she had a full pack then. She wasn't the one going for the kill bite, but she was one of the ones herding them to the right place. Oh, those days with a full pack were some of the best in her life. IT was too bad what happened to the pack, else she would still be there today, never thinking about leaving to join another pack - possibly as a lead huntress - and never thinking about exploring. Aah- She was off in her mind again.
Her head bobbed once in confirmation of the plan, and prepared for the sprint that was coming up for her. This seemed something that a cheeta would do to hunt. Cheetha would stalk preys alone, then sprint at a speed Serlina couldn't begin to think about, and catch the food! Then drag it back to their young, and teach the young to do the same. Which caused her some jelousy over the fact they could run faster than her. In a test of speed they would be. . . cheeting? Eh? Eh? She was going to laugh at that awful pun, but decided against alerting the deer to the fact that death was waiting to catch them.
